LONGGANG District signed deals yesterday at the China Hi-Tech Fair to welcome 10 enterprises and institutions to its newly finished Shenzhen Universiade Software Town.

The software park was renovated from old industrial buildings south of Universiade New Town and is one of nine demonstration zones for industrial upgrades in Shenzhen.

Its new institutions include the Longgang Innovation Center of Shenzhen University, Montnets Technology and the Technology Innovation Center of Northwestern Polytechnical University of China. The park will concentrate on high-end projects in software development and design, e-commerce, industrial design, service outsourcing and start-ups by recent college graduates.

Feng Xianxue, head of the Longgang government, said yesterday that the district will offer preferential rent and tax policies to institutions and enterprises that move into the park.

Longgang began efforts to turn the Liantangwei Industrial Zone into a software base in 2011.

The completed first phase includes 33 buildings totaling 55,200 square meters. The software park also is equipped with recreational facilities, convenience stores, six dormitories for 200 people and two dining halls.

The software park is near the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology and the Shenzhen School of Chinese University of Hong Kong, both of which could offer strong talent pools.

The output value of high-tech enterprises in Longgang District reached 260 billion yuan (US$42.4 billion) in 2012.
