Guangming inks deals to promote innovation

THE Guangming New Area Economic Service Bureau signed an agreement yesterday with China Merchants Guangming Science Park Co. Ltd. on a cooperation framework for optimizing and upgrading innovation and entrepreneurship.

The two reached an agreement to begin construction on the second phase of the innovation park for returned overseas students and the Haier incubator, marking one step further toward completing the China Merchants Intelligence Town, a major project between the Shenzhen government and China Merchants Group.

Also yesterday, the Guangming government signed an agreement with Sun Yat-sen University on a cooperation framework for promoting comprehensive industry-university research cooperation.

“Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen Campus mainly focuses on four disciplines, namely, medicine, new engineering, science and liberal arts,” said Li Shanmin, vice president of Sun Yat-sen University. “We will carry out industry-university research cooperation centering around these four disciplines.”

“Industry-university research cooperation is very important for transforming and upgrading the industries of Guangming, because the transformation and upgrade go hand in hand with the future development of engineering and medicine, which is also in line with China’s development strategy,” said Li.

Currently, Guangming is home to 44 engineering and technical centers at or above municipal level, 11 of which are at or above provincial level.
