Contemporary Buddha Statues
    2016-December-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BUDDHISM is an ancient religion that has many followers around the world. What kind of sparks will it create when the ancient religion meets with contemporary art? An exhibition of 286 Buddha statues, created by artist Xu Binjueyi, might give you some inspiration.

The exhibition, being held at Shenzhen Artron Art Center in Luohu District, presents 286 statues that vary from the traditional form of Buddha. Xu gives the statues a new look by either stretching a Buddha figure out of proportion or carving a statue out of different materials.

The 286 statues on display in Shenzhen are some of the 1,000 Buddha statues Xu has created. Other pieces are being shown in Guangzhou. Xu said he would create another 2,000 statues.SD News
