DIANE KEATON will receive the American Film Institute’s highest honor next month. AFI announced Friday that Keaton will accept its 45th Life Achievement Award during a gala tribute in Los Angeles on June 8.

The 71-year-old Keaton won an Academy Award for playing the title character in “Annie Hall” and has three other lead actress Oscar nominations. Previous recipients of the AFI Life Achievement Award include George Lucas, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Mel Brooks and Jane Fonda.

Chappelle in new film

DAVE CHAPPELLE has joined Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in Warner Bros.’ remake of “A Star Is Born.” Cooper is not only starring opposite Lady Gaga, but is making his directorial debut with the film. Chappelle will play a character named Noodles, who is Cooper’s character’s oldest friend.

The movie is based on the 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The story centers on a movie star who helps an aspiring young actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral. It was remade in 1954 and again in 1976, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson toplining in the 1976 film.
