City sees sharp increase of parallel-imported cars
    2017-July-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

LOCAL car-buyers are increasingly favoring parallel-imported cars with big names like Land Rover, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Porsche.

The city’s inspection and quarantine bureau conducted inspections of 1,291 parallel-imported cars in the first six months of 2017. The total value of the imported cars reached US$160 million, eight times higher than the same period last year, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

The bureau has worked with other government agencies to roll out more convenient policies to further develop services for such cars. One of the methods is to accept appointments for imported car services seven days a week and inspect cars upon their arrival at checkpoints to increase efficiency.

The bureau has updated the managing system for parallel-imported cars by attaching QR codes to the cars to track their status, which will further protect consumers’ rights.

According to the bureau, it also supports the storage of parallel-imported cars at the Qianhai free trade area and invites a third-party organization to test and supervise the cars before and after the cars are stored.

Since the Dachan Bay Checkpoint in Bao’an District was approved for parallel-imported cars last year, an increasing number of car dealers are choosing to use the checkpoint to import cars. (Zhang Qian)
