THE MAGIC AND ENCHANTMENT OF BRYOPHYTES
    2017-July-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Organized by the Organizing Committee of the Congress, the exhibition is now open at the Orchid Hall on the fifth floor of the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center.

Bryophytes have been on Earth for nearly 400 million years. However, due to their diminutive size, it is difficult for them to be observed and identified. As a result, these unique and diverse nonvascular seedless plants are rarely seen in artistic works apart from botanical illustrations.

Bryophytes comprise over 20,000 species worldwide, including about 7,500 liverworts, 13,000 mosses and 200 hornworts.

The majority of bryophytes are very small, often only a few millimeters to a few centimeters tall. They do not have a well-developed internal conducting system to convey water and nutrients throughout the plant, and they don’t have true roots, stems or leaves.

The collaborative efforts of the Fairy Lake Botanical Garden and Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region over two and a half years have given birth to this unique exhibition. The exhibition includes over 80 paintings and 6 models, in all of which bryophytes play key roles.
