Robots to roam aisles in US grocery stores
    2017-August-2  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

超市理货好帮手: 机器人

TallyRobot workers will soon be roaming the isles of some Schnucks grocery stores in the United States.

The chain announced the introduction of a fleet of robot stock boys named Tally with screens to make them appear friendly to its workforce and while these robot employees don’t have limbs and can’t physically stock the shelves, they’ll be tasked with wandering the isles to check inventory and verify prices. The chain will initially test Tally in two stores before hopefully rolling out the full robot fleet.

Each data-collecting robot can stretch to scan out-of-reach shelves. It will also have multiple sensors and cameras atop a circular base that resembles a vacuum to enable it to navigate the store and detect out-of-stock items, which it will then report to the management.

The robot is smart enough to take breaks. When Tally is low on power, it will automatically find its way to a charging station. And while Tally is designed to appear friendly to customers, it’s not meant to interact with them.

These robot stock boys are programmed to avoid customers, so if it detects an area with a lot of customers, it will keep moving and return to that isle later. If a customer approaches Tally, it will stop in its tracks.(SD-Agencies)
