IPR Protection Center established
    2017-August-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE unveiling ceremony for the Shenzhen Intellectual Property Protection (IPR) Center was held in the Qianhai and Shekou Area of the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) on Tuesday, sznews.com reported.

Tian Fu, chief of the Qianhai-Shekou area authority, and Chen Biao, Shenzhen’s vice mayor, attended the ceremony.

Tian said that the establishment of the Shenzhen IPR Protection Center in Qianhai complies with the needs of industrial development in the functional area and will serve the enterprises located in Qianhai. It is beneficial for the area to build up a good business environment and establish a long-term and effective mechanism for intellectual property protection (IPR).

Chen pointed out that the city’s public service capability in terms of IPR protection is not on par with international first-class cities. He hopes the center will become an influential IPR protection institution in China, and the world, based on the strategy of innovation-driven development.

Since 2009, the city’s market supervisory authority has investigated 7,396 cases of IPR violation, with 5,845 cases of trademark infringement, 1,053 cases of patent infringement and 498 cases of copyright infringement. The administrative penalty imposed on Shenzhen QVOD Technology Co. Ltd. for copyright violation was the severest ever in China, totaling 260 million yuan (US$38.9 million).

The establishment of the Shenzhen IPR Protection Center aims at building an IPR public service hub for the government, enterprises, intermediaries and technical organizations.

The center intends to build a monitoring and warning system and a laboratory to provide assistance and consultation in dispute mediation and IPR protection.
