Ofo expansion

BIKE sharing startup ofo has launched its services in Seattle, its first North American city, as part of efforts to expand internationally.

Ofo, which has more than 8 million bicycles in more than 170 cities, will supply 1,000 bicycles to Seattle this month as part of a pilot program and plans to increase its fleet after September, it said. “Our mission is to solve the ‘last mile’ transportation problem in urban areas and we see immense potential in the United States for ofo’s convenient, affordable and low carbon way of travel,” Dai Wei, founder and chief executive of ofo, said in a statement.

Natural gas use

THE government expects its apparent natural gas consumption to rise more than 10 percent from a year ago to around 230 billion cubic meters (bcm) this year, Xinhua said Saturday quoting a report from the National Energy Administration.

The country’s apparent natural gas consumption reached 114.6 bcm in the first half of this year, up 15.2 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Shale gas exploration

A STATE firm has won the right to explore and develop a shale gas block in Guizhou Province in a government auction for 1.29 billion yuan (US$193 million).

Guizhou Industry Investment (Group), with business spanning financing, property, power and coal, is expected to start commercial gas production at the Zheng’an block within three years, according to a report on Guizhou Radio’s social media account. The Guizhou firm will become one of the few players not primarily focused on the oil and gas industry to explore and develop the unconventional resource in China.
