Shenzhen percussion ensemble fetches gold
    2017-August-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The Guyun Leiting (rhyme of drum and thunder) Percussion Ensemble from No. Three Senior High School of Shenzhen stood out from more than 30 competitors from across the country and won the group gold medal with “Six Steeds of the Tang Dynasty” at the PAS China International Percussion Festival recently. At the event’s closing ceremony, they were invited by the organizing committee to stage the performance again.

Though formed by non-professional middle school students, the Guyun Leiting Percussion Ensemble touched the hearts of the entire audience with their outstanding performance. Besides, their performance also won recognition from An Zhishun, a master of Chinese percussion and the writer of “Six Steeds of the Tang Dynasty.”

This is the first time that a middle school from Shenzhen has won the gold at an international percussion competition.

Wu Changle, vice principal of the No. Three Senior High School of Shenzhen, introduced that to further fulfill the art curriculum reform requirement and create a unique art education environment, the school formed a student percussion ensemble in May this year.

On top of that, the school joined hands with the Percussive Arts Society (China) and built a teaching demonstration base in Shenzhen, aiming to utilize the high quality resources and professional advantages of the Percussive Arts Society (China) to put into place the reformation of art courses and create a percussion music base.
