THE Fifth Shenzhen International Low-carbon City Forum will be held at the Low-carbon City Exhibition Center in Longgang District from Sept. 7 to 8, announced the forum’s organizing committee Thursday at the Shenzhen Civic Center.

Following previous years’ traditions, according to the organizing committee, this year’s Low-carbon City Forum will stick with the five main development ideologies that echo China’s national strategy of development, namely innovation, collaboration, green, open and sharing.

According to Wu You, secretary general of the organizing committee, this year’s forum will continue to be held at the International Low-carbon City Exhibition Center. There will be one main forum, six parallel discussions, four seminars and a series of talks related to a range of topics concerning the development of low-carbon cities, green energy revolutions and so forth.

Wu said that this year’s forum will have nearly 2,000 attendees from over 40 national and global institutions. Some high-ranking officials from the ministries will join the forum to discuss heated topics such as climate change, low-carbon city and sustainable development with officials from the United Nations, scholars and entrepreneurs from home and abroad.

The former Italian minister of education and former president of Italy’s national research committee will be among the guest speakers on green, low-carbon and sustainable development. A themed activity “Italian Day” that introduces Italy’s experience in building green cities is one of the highlights of this year’s forum.

The organizing committee is specifically adopting new technologies to make the forum itself green and low-carbon by replacing hardcopy documents with electronic devices and using recyclable materials. Only new-energy cars will be used to pick up and transfer forum attendees.

Another highlight of this year’s forum will be a roadshow featuring clean technology. A total of 19 teams, from both China and abroad, will present projects ranging from new energy to smart city at the roadshow. Over 30 investment institutions have been invited to join the roadshow.

The past four forums have been held in Shenzhen. The forum witnessed the inauguration of China’s first carbon trade market and a few successful talks on green development.
