AIR China will operate direct flights between Shenzhen and Los Angeles starting from Dec. 7, according to an announcement by the operator Thursday.

The flight will depart from Shenzhen at 11:30 p.m. every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. A single trip takes about 12 hours.

The operation dates of the other two new intercontinental routes from Shenzhen have also been decided.

China Southern Airlines will operate flights between Shenzhen and Moscow starting Sept. 28.

The flight operates every Monday and Thursday during the initial stage and will be increased to four flights a week, the airline said.

The flight departs at 4:30 p.m. from Shenzhen, and the one-way trip takes 10 hours. According to the operator, a round-trip fare is 3,500 yuan (US$527) during the promotional period (taxes and fees included).

At present, most of the tickets for the first five flights have been sold.

Hainan Airlines will have flights between Shenzhen and Brisbane, Australia, starting Sept. 20. The flight operates twice a week. It departs from Shenzhen at 10:30 p.m., and a one-way trip takes nine hours.

Airline companies have also applied to CAAC, the national aviation authority, to open flights from Shenzhen to Prague, Madrid and London. The routes are expected to open at the end of the year or the beginning of next year.

Statistics from the Shenzhen airport authority showed that international passenger turnover reached 1.65 million between January and July this year, an increase of 29.5 percent over the same period last year, thanks to the opening and growth of 19 international routes in 2016.

According to the development plan, the Shenzhen airport’s yearly international passenger turnover will reach 5.5 million by the end of 2020, accounting for 10 percent of the total passenger turnover.
