SZ former security chief gets life in jail
    2017-August-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

JIANG ZUNYU, Shenzhen’s former top law enforcement official, was sentenced to life in jail by Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court on Monday after he was convicted of bribery.

The court verdict said Jiang, a former member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and former head of the committee of political and law affairs of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, took 32.65 million yuan (US$4.94 million) and HK$46.7 million (US$5.97 million) in bribes, directly or through others, from individuals and companies between 1996 and 2014 during his tenure as head of the Longgang subbureau of the city’s urban planning and land bureau, deputy chief of the general office of the Longgang Grand Industrial Zone Administration Committee, deputy secretary general of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, head of the city’s water resources bureau, head of the city’s environmental commission, Longgang’s Party chief, and then as the city’s top law enforcement official.

Jiang abused his power to make illicit earnings by offering construction projects and property development projects to developers and individuals who bribed him.

Jiang, born in 1957 in Jiangsu Province, was put under investigation by the Party’s discipline watchdog for suspected serious violations of Party discipline in October 2014.

The court confiscated all of his property and illicit income and put them in the State coffer.

The court decided Jiang had taken a huge amount of bribes by abusing his power and considered a lenient sentence as Jiang had voluntarily given back some of the bribery funds. (Han Ximin)
