Tchaikovsky Competition winner to give a recital

Taiwanese violinist Tseng Yu-chien will present Stravinsky’s “Suite Italienne From the Ballet Pulchinella for Violin and Piano,” Brahms’ “Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Op. 100,” Ysaye’s “Sonata for Solo Violin No. 2 in A Minor, Op. 27, No. 2,” Dvorak’s “Romance in F Minor, Op. 11, B. 39” and Waxman’s “Carmen Fantasie for Violin and Piano” in Nanshan in late October.

He has studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in the U.S. under professors Ida Kavafian and Aaron Rosand since 2008.

Hallmarks of his career include winning the 10th Pablo Sarasate International Competition in Pamplona, Spain (2009), winning the Isang Yun Competition in Tongyeong, South Korea (2011), and being awarded a special prize at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition. He also earned fifth place in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (2012) and won second prize in the International Tchaikovsky Competition (2015), the highest prize in the competition since there was no first prize that year.

Tseng has recorded for Fuga Libera and the Chimei Museum and has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Belgium, and the symphony orchestras of Singapore and Spain, among others.
