SHENZHEN-BASED Internet insurance platform Huize.com has recently released a plan covering children’s critical illnesses, the first of its kind in the domestic market with an insured amount of more than 1 million yuan (US$151,000).

Huixing’an, the plan Huize.com launched targeting children, provides 50 categories exclusive to critical illness and a double payment with a maximum of 1.2 million yuan for eight kinds of critical diseases with high occurrence rates in children.

According to Huize, the launch of the insurance plan is based on claim data accumulated from more than 1 million families.

It chose a variety of major diseases specific to children’s growing years and calculated the incidence rate of these diseases, in hopes of satisfying the need for parents to feel medically secure and to know that their child will be treated if a critical illness befalls them.

Apart from the 25 critical diseases regulated by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, other major diseases have also been included in the scope of this insurance plan.

The eight children’s critical diseases that are eligible for a double payment include leukemia, severe hand-foot-and-mouth disease, intellectual disability caused by disease or accident, severe polio, severe juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, severe myocardial inflammation, severe Reye’s syndrome, and hemolytic uremic syndrome.
