Report‘draws blueprint for social work’

    2017-October-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FEI YINGYING, a Shenzhen delegate at the 19th CPC National Congress, said the report delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the congress’ opening session has drawn the blueprint for the development of social welfare in China, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Friday.

As the deputy head of the childcare department at Bao’an Social Welfare Center, Fei has been taking care of orphaned and disabled children for 15 years. She said she felt honored to be a delegate at the 19th CPC National Congress, and her experience showed that the Party is always concerned with grass-roots workers.

According to Fei, the report delivered by Xi has pointed out the right path for the development of social welfare in China as it mentioned optimizing the country’s social welfare, philanthropy, aftercare and placement systems and improving care services for left-behind children, women and seniors in rural areas.

Fei has taken care of over 1,500 abandoned children and helped over 800 children find adoptive homes over the past 15 years.

According to Fei, caregivers at the welfare center look after the children 24 hours a day, seven days a week. She hasn’t returned home for the Spring Festival for 15 years. “I feel like my effort is worthwhile. I have learned to be grateful after meeting these children, which enables me to consistently make an effort to bring a better life to them,” she said. (Zhang Yang)
