白莲花奖
    2017-November-6  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“白莲花” means “white lotus blossom” and “奖” means “award.” The term “white lotus” is Internet slang that refers to someone, usually a woman, who pretends to be sweet and innocent while is often engaged in manipulation and scheming. On Nov. 1, the first Firestone Literary Awards took place in Beijing. A crowd of Chinese authors showed up at the ceremony, where a list of awards was announced, including Best Short Story, Best Novel, and the one that stole the whole show — the White Lotus Award, a special prize dedicated to the best plagiarized works. The winner went to Qin Jian with her online work “The Poisonous Daughter,” which was already adapted into popular online drama series “The Princess Weiyang.”

Example:

A: 白莲花奖有人领奖吗?

Báiliánhuā jiǎng yǒu rén lǐngjiǎng ma?

Is there anyone who claimed the White Lotus Award?

B: 当然没有。谁会承认自己抄袭呢?

Dāngrán méiyǒu。Shuí huì chéngrèn zìjǐ chāoxí ne?

Of course not. Who would like to acknowledge that he or she plagiarized?
