‘Off Season’

JON HAMM is set to star in the supernatural thriller “Off Season,” being produced by Nira Park (“Baby Driver”) and J. Miles Dale (“The Shape of Water”).

The film is the feature-length debut of writer-director Jonathan van Tulleken, based on his BAFTA-nominated short, and is set in the harsh, frozen Canadian tundra. When a man goes looking for his elderly father who mysteriously disappears, his feverish search exposes shocking family secrets long buried but not forgotten by vengeful forces at work.

TV series

“THE Lord of the Rings” could be the next big TV adaptation.

Warner Bros. Television, whose feature film counterpart produced the feature film series, is in preliminary stages of discussions for a potential TV series based on the J.R.R. Tolkien best-sellers. Amazon Studios, who has a new genre-focused push under company CEO Jeff Bezos, has emerged as a potential buyer. Talks are said to be focusing on rights issues with the Tolkein estate.

David Guillod on leave

A DAY after he was accused of sexual assault, Primary Wave co-CEO David Guillod has taken a leave of absence from the company.

“Ted” actress Jessica Barth said Thursday that Guillod drugged her at a dinner in 2012 and then sexually assaulted her. She reported the incident to the LAPD at the time but said that Guillod threatened to sue her if she pursued the case. A spokesperson for Guillod tells THR that neither the LAPD investigation nor witness reports turned up anything actionable, and no legal papers were filed.

On Friday, the executive team at Primary Wave issued a joint statement annoucing Guillod is taking a leave of absence.

European Film Awards

RUBEN OSTLUND’S “The Square,” a satire of the art world starring Claes Bang, Elisabeth Moss and Dominic West, is the frontrunner at this year’s European Film Awards (EFA) with five nominations, including best film, best comedy, best director, best screenwriter and a best acting nomination for Bang.

Just behind in the nomination stakes is “On Body and Soul,” the dark love story from Hungarian filmmaker Ildiko Enyedi that won the Berlin Film Festival this year, which picked up four EFA nominations, including one for best film. (SD-Agencies)
