奔现
    2017-November-7  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

bēnxiànMeaning:

“奔” means “running,” and “现” is short for “现实,” which means “reality.” Translated as “running towards reality,” this term coined by Chinese netizens refers to the scenario where two people who met online have decided for a date and perhaps will start a real relationship. This term was first popular on the online forum of “Tianxia 3,” an online fantasy game developed by NetEase.

Example:

A: 难得见到你化妆啊。

Nándé jiàndào nǐ huàzhuāng a。

It’s rare to see you in makeup.

B: 今天下班我要去见一个网友。

Jīntiān xiàbān wǒ yào qù jiàn yīgè wǎngyǒu。

I’m going to meet a guy in person whom I met online after work today.

A: 打算奔现啊?

Dǎsuàn bēnxiàn a?

So you are ready to start a real relationship?

B: 要是我不喜欢他就给你发微信,你假装公司有急事打个电话来让我脱身。

Yàoshì wǒ bù xǐhuan tā jìu gěi nǐ fā wēixìn, nǐ jiǎzhuāng gōngsī yǒu jíshì dǎ gè diànhuà lái ràng wǒ tuōshēn。

I will send you a WeChat message if I don’t like him, so that you can give me a call and pretend there’s an emergency at the office. Then I can be off the hook.
