Plane makes U-turn for pregnant woman
    2017-November-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A PROMPT decision made by the captain on a plane that departed Shenzhen for Xi’an on Wednesday morning saved a pregnant woman’s life, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

The woman, identified as Huang, was on a Spring Airlines flight when she suddenly felt intense pain in her abdomen and began bleeding.

She was on her way back to her hometown in Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province, to have an abortion surgery because the fetus was diagnosed with an abnormality. Since there were no other family members in Shenzhen to look after the woman after the abortion, as her husband was busy working, the couple decided that she should go back to their hometown for the surgery.

Huang started to feel the pain only 12 minutes after her flight took off at around 6:45 a.m.

In panic, Huang asked the passenger sitting next to her to help call a flight attendant.

According to a public relations staffer of the airline, the flight attendant took Huang to the lavatory and helped her clean up. After settling Huang into a larger seat, the flight attendant tried to find a doctor among the fellow passengers. However no doctor was on the plane. The flight attendant reported the emergency to the captain, Song Rongsheng, who decided to return to the Shenzhen airport.

The crew members had to explain the situation of the U-turn to individual passengers who were upset with the captain’s decision.

At around 8:18 a.m., the plane landed at the Shenzhen airport and staff from the airport’s emergency center were waiting to get Huang into an ambulance. Huang was later sent to Bao’an People’s Hospital. (Zhang Qian)
