Fines to increase

SHENZHEN will increase fines on water polluters to as much as 1 million yuan (US$150,600), according to a draft regulation released recently to seek public suggestions.

The authority will reserve the right to block units or individuals from discharging wastewater into the urban drainage system if they refuse to correct their wrongdoing. Water supply companies can also limit the polluter’s water supply, on the condition of not affecting the basic needs of residents. People can send their suggestions for the city’s sewage treatment to chailj@fzb.sz.gov.cn by Dec. 11.

Operator reprimanded

SHENZHEN’S urban administration and transport commission have met with and reprimanded the ofo operator for putting additional bikes on Shenzhen’s roads despite the restriction that took effect two months ago.

Shenzhen transport commission issued a restriction in August, banning operators from putting more bikes on roads due to the oversupply of bikes. However, the ofo operator ignored the ban and put more bikes in Guangming New Area and Bao’an District.

The commission said the operator added more new bikes under the guise of replacing old bikes and ordered the operator to take back the additional bikes.

Drugs in bar

GUANGMING police arrested 10 people, who were taking drugs in a bar and one suspect who harbored the criminals, in an increasingly routine check of the bars in Guangming New Area.

Officers at Gongming Police Station found a dozen people looking delirious and intoxicated while dancing in a private room at a bar, during the routine check Nov. 2.

Police later found 10 grams of drugs in the VIP room and arrested a suspect who had organized the party to see off one of their friends.

Route adjustment

THE section of Nanhai Boulevard between Gongye No. 1 Road and Gongye No. 3 Road and the section of Minghua Road between Nanhai Boulevard and Taizi Road will be closed between Dec. 1 and May 31 due to Metro projects.

The Ganghang Road section between Chiwan No. 3 Road and Huaying Road will be closed for six months until May 11 for Metro projects, according to a public notice from the traffic police bureau.
