Budweiser plans to send barley into space
    2017-November-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Budweiser has revealed its ambitious plan to brew the first beer on Mars.

The firm plans to send and study barley, one of the key ingredients* in beer, to the International Space Station (ISS) to see how it reacts in microgravity* environments.

Now, the firm has partnered with experts from the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) to move the plans forwards.

Together, the two groups will carry out two experiments on barley on the ISS, by sending the grain on board SpaceX’s upcoming cargo supply mission, launching on December 4.

Once on the ISS, Budweiser’s barley seeds will stay in orbit for approximately one month before coming down to be analyzed.

One of the experiments will focus on barley seed exposure, to determine whether the storage and equipment of the grain is suitable for space. The second will test barley germination*, to see if seeds grow at the same rate in space as they do here on Earth.(SD-Agencies)
