月欠族
    2017-December-5  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

yuèqiànzúMeaning:

“月” means “month,” “欠” means to “owe money,” and “族” refers to a group of people sharing similarities. Similar to a previous term “月光族,” which refers to those who spend all their monthly salaries and have no bank savings, this one refers to those who not only spend all their salaries but also borrow money to spend. And because they are used to splashing money to keep up their lifestyle, these people have piled up debt on their credit cards.

Example:

A: 小明向我借钱,你觉得我要借给他吗?

Xiǎomíng xiàng wǒ jiè qián, nǐ juédé wǒ yào jiè gěi tā ma?

Xiao Ming asked me to loan him some money. Do you think I should?

B: 他是月欠族,信用卡的债多得还不完,你还是别借给他了。

Tā shì yuèqiànzú, xìnyòngkǎ de zhài duō de huán bù wán, nǐ háishì bié jiè gěi tā le。

He is the type to borrow money for spending each month and pile up debt on his credit cards. You’d better not loan him any money.
