Teen wins championship
    2017-December-7  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WANG XINYU, a 16-year-old student from Meilin Middle School in Futian District, defeated her Papua New Guinean rival and won the championship at the Australian Open 2018 Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play on Sunday, according to a report on the app of the Nanfang Daily yesterday.

On the day of the final, Wang won the difficult match 4-6, 7-5 and 6-4. Gaining a pass to the 2018 Australian Open, she will be the youngest Chinese player ever to enter a Grand Slam match.

The girl was born into a sports family Sept. 26, 2001. Her father, Wang Peng, is a well-known tennis coach who has coached the Chinese national tennis team. Wang’s mother was once a basketball player. With good sports genes, the girl is already 1.82 meters tall at the age of 16.

In 2016, Wang entered Meilin Middle School through an independent sports exam. Her exam results ranked first at the school.

Wang is now ranked world No. 5 for teenager tennis players. She made her debut at several Teenager Grand Slams in 2016 and stunned the world with her outstanding performances.
