中年少女
    2017-December-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“中年” means “middle-aged,” and “少女” refers to a “teenage girl.” This apparently illogical term, originating from a post on Sina Weibo, describes a group of women who are not young any more but have the hobbies and mentality of teenage girls. According to the post, which went viral, “middle-aged girls” have started to worry about hair loss and pay a lot of attention to their health regimen. Nontheless, they love the color pink, frequently shop on taobao.com, and dream of a romance with cute young guys. Those who identify themselves as “middle-aged girls” are not actually middle-aged, but rather in their 20s or early 30s.

Example:

A: 现在的年轻人真爱给自己贴标签。

Xiànzài de niánqīngrén zhēn ài gěi zìjǐ tiē biāoqiān。

Young people today just love to tag themselves.

B: 可不是吗,前有佛系青年,后有中年少女。

Kě bùshì ma, qián yǒu fóxì qīngnián, hòu yǒu zhōngnián shàonǚ。

Isn’t that true! They’ve just coined the term “Buddha-like young people,” and now the title “middle-aged girls” has popped up.
