SHENZHEN traffic police are advising holidaymakers to take public transport instead of driving their own cars for year-end celebrations in the city where four major gatherings will be held during the New Year holiday.

The public gatherings include a year-end concert in Nanshan, music festivals in Futian and Longgang and the New Year’s Marathon in Dapeng.

On Saturday and Sunday, Midi Music Festival will be held in the square of Universiade Sports Center. Color Music Festival will be held at Shenzhen Stadium. Zhejiang Satellite Television’s year-end concert will be held at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center.

“As the four gatherings don’t provide parking spaces, and only licensed vehicles are allowed, holiday makers should take public transport,” Hong Yibo, deputy section chief with SZ traffic police commanding department, said at a news conference.

For the New Year’s Marathon in Dapeng on Jan. 1, police will adopt dynamic controls over 10 road sections following the progress of the event along the 42 km route on Dapeng Peninsula. The route includes Zhongshan Road, Yingbin Road, Pengfei Road, Xinda Road and Xindong Road. The finishing point, at the Qinzheng Road section between Zhongshan Road and Renmin Road, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the event

For vehicles going to the city’s eastern tourism attractions, in Yantian and Dapeng, police will impose a three-level response, as well as alerts, according the level of vehicle flow. They will also check illegal parking and the illegal use of emergency lanes.
