ILLEGAL parking, illegal use of motorist lanes and disregarding road bans or restrictions are the top three traffic violations, according to the Top 10 Traffic Violations List in 2017 released Thursday.

Shenzhen traffic police checked a total of 6.01 million traffic violations in 2017, an increase of 55.3 percent over the previous year.

Among them, 1.79 million were for illegal parking, 357,906 were for the illegal use of motorist lanes and 333,495 were for using roads in violation of restrictions or rules, according to Wang Haidi, deputy chief of the traffic violation section of the transportation department of the Shenzhen traffic police bureau.

Other violations, such as pedestrians crossing against red lights, speeding and failing to fasten safety belts are among the top 10 violations.

“Police checked 14,889 DUI violations in 2017, an increase of 34 percent over the previous year. Drunk driving violations rose by 52 percent to 6,160 in 2017,” Wang said.

The Caiwuwei Footbridge section of Shennan Road East saw the most violations for illegally occupying motorist lanes and trucks ignoring traffic bans, while Yanba Exit of Shenzhen Yantian No. 2 Passage recorded the most violations for illegally using bus lanes. Nanguang Expressway reported the most speeding violations.

The intersection of Bao’an Boulevard and Chuangye No. 1 Road ranks first out of 10 intersections for recording 9,951 pedestrian violations. The intersection of Jihua Road and Lanhua Road in Buji reported 7,585 violations. Yanhe Road recorded 6,643 violations, ranking No. 3.
