Students invent multifunctional hot pot spoon
    2018-January-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A multifunctional hot pot spoon invented by Fu Weijie and Yang Yongping, two students from Longgang No.2 Vocational School, won first place in Creative Design in the third “Challenge Cup Rainbow Life” Guangdong Vocational College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition recently.

The spoon, which combines the three functions of a soup ladle, a strainer and a bottle opener into one utensil, makes eating hot pot more convenient and saves a lot of space.

According to Fu, the design concept was rooted in his genuine enjoyment of hot pot. He noticed that frequently changing the dinnerware negatively influenced the experience of bountiful morsels. Therefore, simplifying the dinnerware without impeding dining efficiency drove them to come up with the idea of creating a multifunctional spoon.

The judges all commented that the highlight of the invention is that it provides a concrete and practical solution to a real life problem. The invention was reasonably perfect, mature and ready to be put into mass production immediately.

Huang Zhongwen, the advising teacher, said that Longgang No.2 Vocational School is one of the two secondary vocational schools with a maker space in the city. The school pays special attention to innovative design competitions, deeming that participating can improve students’ creativity.

Inventions by the students of the school included campus-wide smart electric bikes using green energy and a treadmill+Internet concept, all well-received by maker competitions among secondary vocational school students.

The competition, jointly organized by the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and the Department of Science and Technology Guangdong Province, received 1,440 works from 103 vocational schools.
