Supermarket closing down
    2018-February-8  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SUPERMARKET that has run for 10 years in Coastal City in Nanshan District will be closing down in the beginning of March. Many residents said they are sorry to hear the news, the Shekou News reported.

The Aeon supermarket inside the Coastal City shopping mall is the only Aeon outlet in Nanshan District. Now the supermarket is hanging posters to announce some final sales ending March 3. Many stalls inside the supermarket are having sales, but food and consumption goods prices remain the same.

Learning that the supermarket is going to be shut down, a lot of residents have come to the supermarket to do some last-minute shopping while others come to bid farewell to this outlet, which has been popular among residents for its large selection of daily commodities at inexpensive prices.

A high school student said she had always come to a restaurant inside the supermarket to buy lunch on school days. “It’s an unforgettable memory for me and I feel sad that the supermarket is closing down,” said the student.

Another resident, surnamed Mei, said that the Aeon supermarket is much larger than the other supermarkets in the neighborhood and the residents there would have fewer option for shopping once Aeon is gone.

A staffer from the supermarket’s parent company responded that the supermarket has not encountered any financial problems and that the shutdown is due to the terminating rental lease in March. The company did not have an agreement with the shopping mall to continue its lease.

The staffer also said that the other four Aeon outlets are still in operation and that customers can deal with their unfinished affairs at these outlets.

Another Aeon outlet at Coco Park in Futian closed down in May last year, while two outlets in Dongguan and Guangzhou also terminated their business in 2017. The company responded that shutting down these outlets is part of its development strategy.
