Woman asked to pay damages for breakup
    2018-February-8  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A WOMAN surnamed Qu recently disclosed her story to a program on Shenzhen TV, recounting her experience of being deceived by a man who is 20 years older than her and urged her to compensate 400,000 yuan (US$63,534) for a breakup several years ago. Now the separated lovebirds are about to meet at court over the custody of their son, SZTV reported.

Qu met the man surnamed Su in 2004 when the woman was only 19 years old and working in Longgang District. Su, 20 years older than the woman, pursued Qu and eventually the woman agreed to date him.

Four years later in 2008, the couple had a son named Xiaoquan. However, Qu felt something was not right with Su because the woman had never met any of his family. The couple never married.

Later, Qu found out that the man already had a wife and two daughters in his hometown and had never divorced her. Recognizing the deceit, Qu decided to end the relationship with Su.

It wasn’t until 2013 that Qu permanently ended the relationship up with Su. However, the man had unexpectedly asked the woman to pay him 400,000 yuan for compensation including hospital fees from when the woman gave birth, money to buy infant formula powder and a lump sum for the man’s time.

Longing to end the relationship as soon as possible, the woman ended up giving the man 600,000 yuan and the court decided that the father would have custody of their son. However, Qu claims to now have experienced obstacles when visiting her own son.

Qu provided a recorded audio clip in which Su taught his son to utter bad words against his mother. The woman shed tears whenever relating her story, saying that the cruelest thing that can ever happen in one’s life is for their family to separate.

The reporter contacted Su and set up a meeting between the separated pair. According to Su, he did not refuse to let Qu visit their son, but the premise was that Qu sees Xiaoquan under the father’s supervision.

Su admitted that he did have a wife when he was having a relationship with Qu, but he denied they were in a romantic relationship. As for the money, he admitted Qu gave him 600,000 yuan, but that it was for a fish tank rather than a compensation fee.

Nevertheless, a lawyer said that visiting children is a parent’s legal right. Interfering or refusing the other parent’s visit is considered an illegal offense.

It was also reported that Qu had already remarried someone else and the couple had lodged appeals to the court over Xiaoquan’s custody. (Zhang Qian)
