Government-led charitable trust in place
    2018-February-9  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A CHARITABLE trust for the ecological construction of Dapeng Peninsula has been put on record in the provincial department of civil affairs, the Daily Sunshine reported Thursday.

Entrusted by the Shenzhen Dapeng New Area Management Committee, the Shenzhen Social Commonwealth Foundation is the trustee of the charitable trust, which is the first of its kind in the country operated by the local government and a charitable organization.

The Dapeng New Area Management Committee will invest 10 million yuan (US$1.57 million) in the first phase to set up a public welfare fund for the ecological construction of Dapeng Peninsula.

The fund, managed by the Shenzhen Social Commonwealth Foundation, will be under the charitable trust and special fund models.

The charitable trust will be funded by the government, while the trust income and the publicly raised funds will be used to set up a special fund for related public welfare projects and activities concerning the ecological construction of the peninsula.

The projects and activities include marine ecological protection, environmental pollution control, ecological restoration, the popularization of the green lifestyle, as well as stimulating the R&D, publicity and education of ecological civilization.

The fund will render more support to public welfare projects that are problem-oriented and demand-oriented in the field of ecological construction.

It has been reported that Ping An Bank opened a special account for the trust fund and exempted the custody charges. CNOOC Shenzhen Gas Co. Ltd. and Shenzhen Research Institute of Guangdong Ocean University also committed to donating 500,000 yuan and 100,000 yuan respectively to the fund.
