Passenger saved from heart attack
    2018-February-9  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THROUGH the prompt efforts by crew members and air traffic controllers, a passenger who had suffered from a heart attack on a plane from Shanghai to Shenzhen was saved Monday, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.

At 8:40 p.m. Monday, the Shenzhen International Airport air traffic control room got a message from the Shenzhen Airlines flight 9512 from the Hongqiao airport to Shenzhen that a passenger had suffered a heart attack in-flight.

The control room in Shenzhen took emergency measures upon receiving the message and called for an expedited air route, letting the plane land before its scheduled landing time and getting the patient to medical care more quickly.

According to the report, the operator on duty at the control room that day, Wen Feng, asked about the patient’s physical condition, the flight’s location and its estimated time of arrival before dispatching emergency notices to the airport’s operation center and emergency rescue department in order to help them get better-prepared.

To ensure their landing was as speedy as possible during the high-traffic flight season, the control room cleared the airways, issuing orders to other inbound flights to Shenzhen to make way.

At 9:23 p.m. that night, the plane landed on the western runway at Shenzhen International Airport 20 minutes earlier than its estimated time of arrival, the News report said. The patient was picked up by an ambulance and received medical treatment as soon as the aircraft came to a halt.
