SHENZHEN North Railway Station has imposed a temporary rule only allowing passengers within two hours of their departure time to enter the departure halls between 6:50 a.m. and 10 a.m., and between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The rule, which is in effect between Saturday and tomorrow, the peak period of holiday rush, is to curb overcrowding and ensure safety.

In addition, North Railway Station has set up an emergency passage at both its eastern and western entrances to offer quick access for passengers who are catching trains within 15 minutes before their departure times and who are physically disabled.

By Saturday, there were only a limited number of tickets left for trains departing from Shenzhen North Railway Station to Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai and Hangzhou between yesterday and Thursday.

The tickets to other cities have sold out.

To prepare for the holiday rush, Shenzhen North Railway Station opened all its ticket checking lanes, ticket dispensers and security check lanes.

On Saturday, Shenzhen North Railway Station operated 248.5 pairs of trains and saw a record 194,518 passengers leaving the city and 82,563 passengers coming to the city.

Also on Saturday, Shenzhen Railway Station and Shenzhen East Railway Station sent 163,000 passengers home, a new record.

In the 10 days since the start of the Spring Festival holiday rush, the three stations had sent 2.32 million passengers home.
