Quarantine rules

FOR those who plan to travel overseas during the Spring Festival holiday, the city’s inspection and quarantine department reiterates that exiting the mainland with banned products such as seeds, fresh fruits, meat or wood might lead to fines or even imprisonment.

Vice versa, the customs authority also has strict rules on foreign items entering the mainland. Visitors are reminded to check relevant laws and regulations.

Library open hours

THE Shenzhen Library will adjust its opening hours during the holiday. The reading and lending sections of the library will be closed from Thursday to Saturday and reopen from Sunday.

The newspaper and magazine section on the 1st floor will be open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The self-help and online libraries will remain in service 24 hours every day.

Nonlocal vehicles

SHENZHEN police will suspend a restriction rule and allow nonlocal vehicles to run on Shenzhen roads citywide between today and March 2, according to a release yesterday.

The rule will resume March 3 during rush hours on workdays on some roads in the city.

Cash reward

SHENZHEN traffic police will give a cash reward to a whistleblower who reported a coach that was suspected of being overloaded with passengers. Police intercepted a coach at 11 a.m. Saturday at the inspection station in Guangming, five minutes after receiving the report.

This is the first cash reward to be handed out by police under the reward mechanism for this Spring Festival transport season.

It was found that the bus was overloaded by one passenger. The driver was fined 500 yuan (US$79) and had six penalty points added to his license.

Smuggled wildlife

OVER 10,000 pieces of smuggled items or products of wild animals and plants, including red coral, antlers and boa gallbladder, were confiscated by Luohu Customs in 2017, sznews.com reported.

According to Luohu Customs, some suspects admitted that they wanted to profiteer from the products, while others were tourists who thought they could get away with treating the banned items as souvenirs.
